 AZURITE    [Astrological Sign of Sagittarius] 

Color: Blue, azure blue, may produce a vitreous lustre

Hardness: 3.5-4

Crystals: Monoclinic 

Azurite comes from the ancient Persian lazhward, meaning “blue”, in implication of it’s color.

It is a secondary copper mineral often found in oxidized zones of Cu-bearing ore deposits. Azurite is often pseudomorphed to Malachite, which is why you can find them hanging out together often. It crystallizes in masses, nodules, stains, films, tabular, or short prismatic crystals.

 Azurite is known as a “stone of heaven”. May help inspire us in pursuit of the heavenly self, with assistance & guidance from the 3rd eye and interpreting psychic experiences sharply. It’s energies are excellent to have around for getting in touch with the psychic self & development as well as the mystical realms & information. It helps bring on a relaxed state. For meditation this is great to enter the void (no mind) with ease and to travel deep within. In a conscious state this relaxation helps us toward awareness, precision & global thought.

 Great for boosting creativity, advancing our talents, & artistic endeavors. Helps us to see through love & the heart space with compassion and empathy. Booster of self-confidence. Releasing the barriers on our paths. Helping to kick away indecisiveness and worryful thoughts (just ask).

Azurite & Malachite are on the list of toxic minerals/crystals. Please handle with caution, especially raw mineral specimens/unpolished pieces. As far as I understand it, as long as you wash your hands after handling and do not get it wet (do not cleanse specimens by water or use for submerged elixirs!), inhale it’s dust, try and take a bite out of it or make a sandwich out of it, you should be good. As always I highly recommend researching toxic minerals, and to educate yourself on which minerals may be on the list and in your collection. Unfortunately I do not have a list together to share yet.
